The Explosive Power of This Moment
Regrets of the Past, Fears for the Future, and Surrendering Every Tense to God
Most of the things that keep us from living a life of peace are in another tense. Past tense things that happened to us, memories that haunt, regrets that keep us up at night. Or future tense. All the fears of what is coming, what could happen, what more can we lose?
But the truth is this: This present tense moment is exploding with power. In it, we have the ability to give power, for good or bad, to the past and the future.
We can choose to let memories haunt us, or we can choose to let God redeem them and use them to make us more in the image of Christ.
We can let a vision of the future paralyze us, counting every cost, keeping our hearts with doors locked and bolted, shut out from all the love and beauty around us.
Or we can let a vision of our place in the kingdom of God lead us with courage into a life that is braver and richer than we could ever know.
Oh God, I give the explosive power of this moment to you. Not looking behind in regret or ahead in fear, but seeing clearly the choice of new life and freedom before me. I offer up my heart, my soul, my mind, body, spirit, memories, experiences, hopes, doubts, fears, anxieties, longings and imaginings. I offer up the parts of my being that are so wonderfully complex they have yet to be named in human language. I give it all to you. I pray that you will take my life—every tense of it—and use it for your glory.
