My name is Mackenzie Chester. I’m a Mama of eight explosively creative children ages 1-14. They are artists and musicians, writers, thinkers, builders, dreamers. They are young. They are growing. They are inspiring and prolific. I’m married to a man who plays a guitar with drums and brazil nut pods and random tins he found around the house tied on. He beats the thing while singing songs that literally make me cry because they are so beautiful. I’m at heart a journaler, and I blog and podcast at The Sacred Everyday, where I search for the exquisite beauty of ordinary life.
I love the unforgettable feeling that comes the split-second after a baby is born. I love watching these children become who they were created to be. I love songs that make me stare off into the distance and think about the aching beauty of life. I love having good ideas. I love the feeling of hand-writing. I love strong tea. I love marriage and the comfort it brings. I love the way love in a family grows. I love words and how they have given me something to hang onto in the most desperate seasons of my life. I love making things. I love evening walks. I love a day with no plans. I love hitting publish. I love letters in the mail. I love ink on paper.
I hope to make a place of inspiration here in this newsletter. I want it to be a place of beautiful things, of inspiration, and throught-provoking conversation about living out a creative calling and what that looks like in the midst of marriage and raising a family. I hope to make this a scrapbook of sorts of the creative family culture we are building in our home, to add beauty to this world. I hope to find kindred friends who want to have these heart-to-hearts with me. And I hope to spark ideas that will encourage others to live their best creative family life. More than anything, I hope my life reflects the beauty of the One who made all that is good, true, and beautiful.
Do we have some things in common? If so, I’d love for you to join me here. And I’d love to hear your answers to any or all of these questions (Who are you? What do you love? What do you hope for? ) in the comments or in an email reply.
I am looking forward to getting to know you.
Love and the first of the crimson and gold of autumn leaves,
Mackenzie
